First official day of the program.
We get to play tourist! A tour of the University of Ghana (Legon campus) is arranged for us and we had to attend a lecture on etiquette, ie. what to expect in experiencing the cultural differences between Canada and Ghana. Bottom line: Your left hand is dead to you! It is considered to be extremely offensive to wave, gesture or hand items off with your left hand to a Ghanaian. The left hand is deemed to be the "dirty" hand and only used to clean the nose and to wipe the bum. Duly noted.
The University of Ghana campus is absolutely gorgeous and HUGE! Way larger than that of the University of Alberta campus. It has been centered on a hill that overlooks the city of Accra.
